Mobile grooming

Get the chassis, grooming build and financing into one plan.

A mobile grooming vehicle has to work as a vehicle, a salon and a customer-facing brand every day. I coordinate the chassis, the financing introductions and the grooming upfitter so you have one clear vehicle project.

Open the door ready to groom.

Most groomers buy the vehicle twice: once from a dealer who does not know what a salon build weighs, and again from an upfitter who has to work with whatever chassis showed up. The result is a van that is overweight, underpowered for the water heater and the dryer, or months later than the launch date.

I run it as one project. The chassis is chosen for the build, the build is scheduled against the chassis delivery, the lender can consider both, and the wrap is designed around the finished vehicle. You get a date and one accountable contact from the first call to the first appointment.

  • Chassis and body fit: roof height, length and GVWR for a full salon build
  • Power, water and weight planning for the tub, heater, dryer and fresh and grey tanks
  • Groomer workflow and storage so tools stay within reach at the table
  • Financing and delivery coordination across chassis, upfitter and lender
  • Wrap and franchise brand standards applied to the finished vehicle
Power, water and weight

The three numbers that decide the chassis.

A grooming build adds a tub, a water heater, fresh and grey water tanks, a dryer, cabinetry, climate control and either a generator, shore power or a lithium battery system. Water alone can weigh several hundred pounds. Before I shortlist a chassis I get the upfitter’s build weight and power draw, then check it against the payload and electrical capacity of the exact van, not the brochure.

Independent groomers and franchise groomers make different decisions. A franchise usually has an approved build and brand standard I can plan against. An independent owner gets to choose the build path: a new chassis plus a grooming build, or converting a van you already own if the numbers work.

Common vehicle picks

Where grooming builds usually start

  • Mercedes-Benz Sprinter — high roof, long body and payload headroom for a full salon build.
  • Ford Transit — high-roof, long-body Transit is a common grooming platform with wide upfitter support.
  • Ram ProMaster — low floor and wide interior for a compact salon layout.
  • Ford Super Duty — a cutaway or chassis-cab build for the largest salons.
Upfit patterns that work

What the build should specify

  • Tub height, table position and lighting for the groomer
  • Fresh and grey tank sizes and where they mount
  • Power source: generator, shore power or lithium and inverter
  • Climate control for the animal and the groomer
  • Storage for dryers, clippers, shampoo and towels
Decide before the quote

Settle these first

  • New chassis plus build, or convert a van you own
  • Payload after the full build with water on board
  • Power source and how it is serviced
  • How many groomers work at once
  • Franchise brand standard or independent design

Questions groomers ask me

How much does a mobile grooming van cost?

The chassis alone starts between $46,000 and $55,000 for the vans on this site, and a professional salon build adds a significant amount on top. I gather the dealer's, upfitter's and wrap shop's written pricing for the chassis, the build, the wrap and delivery together, so you see one number before you commit.

Can the chassis and the grooming build be financed together?

I introduce you to lenders and lessors who can cover both so the build is not paid out of cash flow. The credit decision stays with you and the lender. I help you organize the vehicle and build information the lender asks for.

Which van is best for mobile grooming?

High-roof, long-body Sprinters and Transits are the most common platforms because a groomer can stand at the table and the payload covers a full build with water on board. A ProMaster works for compact layouts. I check the upfitter’s weight and power numbers against the exact chassis.

How long does a grooming build take?

Chassis availability and the upfitter’s schedule drive the date. I schedule the build against the chassis delivery and track both, so you know the first-appointment date early enough to book customers.
